“It’s still a race” according to Newsweek’s Howard Fineman. It might be just two days till Election Day but Fineman reiterated that this election is not a blowout just yet. He believes that the election is not as big of a rout as news media and other sources are predicting. The cultural divide of the country and worries of “soft Republicans” has kept the election somewhat close, but it still seems somewhat impossible—barring a miracle—for McCain to win the Electoral College vote.
Indeed, according to Fineman, this race should have been a blowout. The economy’s down, people dislike the Republican presidency, and unemployment is rising. Voters question the inexperience of Sarah Palin and the age of John McCain. Additionally, Obama has outspent McCain on advertising three or four to one and has 4000 paid organizers in swing states. Even more, Obama has been the media darling while McCain has been the constant scapegoat of the press.
And even though Obama seems to be driving off towards the White House, “John McCain has not quite disappeared in the rearview window.” Indeed, the new Gallop polls show that Obama only leads McCain by two points: 49% to 47%. Even Obama’s own camp expects a close race while still emphasizing that McCain will not win swing states.
