The DM currently has no company among fellow college newspapers. UWire's endorsement scorecard has our very own Daily Mississippian as the only one to endorse Senator McCain for president. The scorecard has recorded 70 college newspapers at this point.
The result mirrors the reputation of Mississippi's vote as a Republican state, but I am not sure it is a correct representation of the feelings of many people on our campus or even our newsroom. It's apparently not the same feelings as other college media students. And the editorial board did indeed seem conflicted with their choice. Writing that not everything Sen. McCain would do as president would help out Mississippi does not seem an ideal thing to discuss in an endorsement.
It's also apparent that the editorial board made a quick decision about who to endorse, saying they just made a "split decision" to choose him. I wonder if they thought how this choice would set them apart from the rest of the college newspaper world.
But, I'm sure the DM will stand tall as the ones who called it right if Sen. McCain wins Tuesday's election. Our newspaper currently stands alone under the McCain umbrella while everyone else is jamming in under Sen. Obama's. I'm waiting to see if anyone will join us. There is plenty of room.

Hahahahaha! There is so much more to that than you know involving the situation resulting in that vote. The DM THIS year is but a hollow shell of itself...
It is definitely "Standing Alone" in the hearts of this university for a reason!
