Considering all of the fuss that was made prior to the vice presidential debate about how important it would be, I felt that it did not make that big of an impact on the race. The most good it did was to shift the focus back onto the presidential candidates, who are who we are voting for after all...
Everyone (including myself) was waiting with bated breath to see how Sarah Palin would perform following her disastrous interview with Katie Couric and, to be honest, she didn't screw it up too badly. Yes, she obviously winked at the audience at least twice and avoided directly answering any questions, but she conveyed actual thoughts, which is an improvement.
Overall, I think she handled herself well and made sure to throw in a few jibes toward Obama's camp, including the delightful imagery of the "white flag" he is prepared to throw up in Iraq as well as a quick criticism of his Washington business practices. Now if we could only remove the terms 'maverick' and 'Joe six-pack' from her vocabulary.
Joe Biden was, for the most part, steady and well spoken. He answered questions clearly, although sometimes too monotonously, for my taste, and didn't seem willing to push Palin in the least. I think his performance was just fine, but I had been hoping for a few more fireworks.
I was pretty disappointed in the debate to be honest, as I was expecting it to be a bit more heated. I was surprised that Palin pulled it off as well as she did, and I wish Biden would have put himself out there a little more. And while this debate wasn't quite up to par with last weeks, at least the SNL skit was better...
