So this new town hall style of debate was supposed to bring a different angle to the debate itself and keep interest up. Failed on both counts if you ask me. I say it failed because the whole time regardless of Tom Brokaw's near constant reminders that they were on a time schedule , both candidates decided to get on their respective soap boxes and stay on them for far too long. After watching these two jab back and forth it is my conclusion that if you turned on the mute button and just watched the candidates body language that you could figure out within the 90 minute span of the debate which candidate belonged to what party, their respective past voting records and which one had served in the military. McCain stands at the podium like a general would, and Obama stands like an eloquent speaker. My biggest problem with the entire campaign process in general is all their talk is speculation. It is impossible to say before you have worked one day in a new job what you will accomplish in the first week, not to mention the next four years. It is easy to stand behind a podium and say what you would do if you were there. The hard part is assessing the situation once you get the job and seeing what is possible to do. These two men don't know all the classified information that the next president will need to know to make informed decisions on everything from healthcare to the economy . So for now I take it all as just talk until January.
