The hurricane to keep an eye out for is Ike. The deadly storm is approaching Cuba with 120 mph damaging winds, heavy rains resulting in flooding, and the loss of homes, families and friends. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas are on the watch since some of the Gulf Coast states are not in the financial position to take on another storm, Time magazine said. In my opinion, it seems that since Katrina the storms have appeared to be more severe. Hurricane Camille in 1969 was one of the worst of its kind until Katrina. Unfortunately, as time goes on, Katrina will be remembered like Camille because there is always something bigger and badder out there. I pray that Ike will not enter the Gulf of Mexico because if it does, I really don't think the Coast will be able to survive. I also think it's taking a toll on people. However, if you have lived there for your entire life, then its really just a fact of life and its something that goes with the territory. Ike might lose some of its strength went it glides over Cuba, but it will most likely regain its energy when nearing the Gulf. I know for a fact that my family is prepared for a second hit this year. People like my grandparents are leaving their windows boarded till the end of the hurricane season just to be on the safe side and I don't blame them. If Gustav did hit, it would be tremendously difficult to lose the little you had left from Katrina. I know I took the safe route and packed absolutely everything.
