Barrack Obama poked fun at John McCain this week as being computer illiterate, out of touch and out of date in a new television commercial that came out today. This new attack has come from McCain’s recent gain in polls and democrats expressing concern that Obama’s campaign has not been forceful enough lately. The commercial depicts McCain in the early 1980’s wearing an obviously out-of-date suit. After focusing on McCain’s attire in his early days in Washington a voice then says “In 1982, John McCain goes to Washington…Things have changed over the past 26 years but McCain hasn’t.” The voice over then goes on to say that McCain still does not know how to use a computer and send an e-mail, so on and so forth. If you are running for the president of the United States I would hope you would know how to send an e-mail. I think if anything, Obama’s people are taking something McCain may have joked about and turning that quote or those quotes into a different extreme. I could be completely incorrect but maybe McCain said that to identify with the older generations of Americans who ARE computer illiterate and DO NOT know how to work a computer - literally. Maybe he was trying to sympathize with those that are on the other half of the digital divide? Who knows but I cannot help but think that Obama’s people are being a little silly with this new campaign commercial. Although, there is one positive that comes out of this commercial- if McCain has been involved with Washington since 1982 Obama’s people are doing nothing but highlighting McCain's experience.

Obama's campaign loves to play the age card, don't they? I agree that this only further makes McCain's resume shine. Obama's team poked fun at Palin for her "lack of experience," but I think that little insult backfired. After all he doesn't have any right to sneer at her for being a small town mayor and running for VP while he's opting to be the leader of the free people with even less experience. Same with this. His jokes about McCain's age will prove to be the same.
