Debate week begins tomorrow and already some roads and parking lots have closed. Only the roads and parking lots closest to the Ford Center have been closed as of today. However, these types of closings have only begun as more and more campus roads and students' usual routes will be closed to vehicular traffic. Understandably the areas in the closest vicinity to the Ford Center will be off limits; but I must say, I wonder why so many roads even in towards the center of campus will be off limits.
One can only imagine what stringent security measures have been and will be taken as we approach this upcoming Friday. Some have said that the projected Debate budget has been tripled to somewhere around $13million. Some students have expressed a concern with this number, wondering why such an expense is being used on temporary Debate items as opposed to a new parking facility, etc. However, most money utilized has been donated by Ole Miss alums specifically in order to fund the Debate.
Back in 2004 at the University of Miami, security was just as tight. All students were made to wear ID name-tags at all times, or face being booted off campus. Barricades, fences, and patrolling police cars also appeared in swarms. So get ready Ole Miss! The security and media frenzies are on its way!
