Whenever anyone first recollects Ole Miss, the first thing that comes to mind is James Meredith's admission to the university in 1962. Not only that, images of the Confederacy and southern pride also ring when Ole Miss is in the conversation.
Thus the importance of Friday's Presidential Debate is paramount for the university as a whole. Just think, a school that was one of the final institutions of higher learning to integrate is hosting the first ever presidential debate featuring a candidate of African-American descent. Some may call it irony. I call it progress.
All the credit in the world goes to both Barack Obama and John McCain going into the home stretch of their campaigns leading up to the election.
May the best man win!
