After reading The Clarion Ledger’s “Times Have Changed,” I realized that whoever wins the election a step toward change will have taken place.  Change of not just what can be done, but also a historical change.  Ole Miss’s Dr. Susan Glisson, director of the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation said, “It certainly points to transformations in American culture in terms of accomplishments in the civil rights and women’s movements.”  If Obama wins, a day that African Americans thought they would never see, he will have energized African Americans like never before.  If McCain wins, Palin will motivate women, like women have never been motivated before.

No matter who wins, each candidate can send a particular message.  ‘You can do anything you want, be anything you want to be, and nothing can hold you back from obtaining your goals, not race nor gender.’

If you look at the election from that perspective, it’s win-win situation.  Since we’re actually looking at the platforms proposed by each candidate though, now that’s a different story.

Historical times lie ahead! Get ready!
