I watched C-Span's coverage of the RNC yesterday and saw Vice Presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin rouse up the troops for McCain. The very attractive Alaskan introduced her five children and husband Todd. She thanked her parents for their early support of her dreams. Palin said her parents taught her that "every woman can walk through every door of oppurtunity." She took a stab at the democratic ticket saying " they talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco." Palin's most resonant quote of the night was directed at the media "I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion, I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this great country." This was obviously a response to the media's attacks on her 17 year old daughters "illegitimate" pregnancy. I thought she took a very strong stance, and since McCain is strongly pro-life it was in her best interest. One of the things I enjoyed most about her speech, but at the same time found hypocritical was the fact that she auctioned off her private jet on e-bay because she is eco-friendly. A little bit later in the speech she talks about drilling for oil and more pipeline in the north slopes of Alaska. I had a feeling thats why McCain picked her. She probably has all the connections in the world to get that pipeline flowing, it makes me wonder how long the GOP had planned for this. Palin justified drilling in Alaska when she said "When a Hurricane strikes in the gulf, we should not be so dependent on foreign oil that we have to draw from our strategic petroleum reserve." The rest of the speech she bashed O'bama, one particular quip that caught my ear: "a man who authored two memoirs but not a single law in the senate." Overall she made a good speech she got a lot of laughs, but she lost control of her audience when they were booing O'bama and Biden.
