When one thinks of American politics, the first thing that usually comes to mind is donkey or elephant. You know, those cute little (well, maybe not little) animals that represent the two dominant political parties in America.

Given that, I am declaring the animal that will represent independents will be a fox. That's right, a fox.

The third party in America has been given very little power, or chance, to change American government since the Constitution was signed. In the beginning, it was the Federalists vs. the Democratic-Republicans. Then, it was the Whigs vs. the Democrats. The battle between Republicans and Democrats really didn't ensue until just before the Civil War. For instance, the last President who was neither a Democrat nor a Republican was Abraham Lincoln, who was a member of the National Union Party.

In today's politics, a third party candidate has about as much chance at winning the Presidential Election as Ted Kaczynski does being released from prison on parole. It's just not going to happen.

And why is that? Is America afraid to agree with both what Republicans think and what Democrats think? Is it a popularity contest to flaunt that they're a donkey or a elephant?

Whatever the case, nothing has changed, and it has ultimately skewed political lines so harshly that it could be impossible to ever have a prominent third party in America.

That's why the independent will be the fox. Sly, and proactive, at times. But not as hard working as the donkey, and not as powerful as the elephant.

Why not a snake? Like a 3rd party, noone likes a snake yet every now and then they jump out of nowhere, bite you, and ruin your day.
