I find it hard to believe that after two nights at the D.N.C. Barack has yet to lay down a definitive plan of action for our country’s future. Respectfully, he has not spoken live at the convention as of yet and I hope to hear some of his ideas for this country that do not pertain to hope, change or the American dream. Although, I feel the American dream is still alive, I feel it has been painfully misinterpreted. I feel the American people are looking for the American Dream in a handout from Uncle Sam, ignoring hard work, and reaping the benefits of that work. The American public has grown complacent, can’t find a job? Well the government will send you checks until you find a job, but you might want to stay home because you can make more with government subsidies than working for minimum wage. This attitude is spreading faster than those tall blue signs that say “MICHELLE” in the convention. I do not doubt Michelle Obama’s intelligence, work ethic, or public service record I just wish she would take on such issues as women’s rights, gays in the military or tax breaks for single mothers and the elderly with as much intensity as she had when she spoke about her father, or meeting Barack for the first time. One must be quick to remember the same woman who spoke so passionately on Monday night was the same woman who was proud to be an American for the first time just months ago. Michelle Obama focused much of her speech Monday night on her public service record. Michelle Obama chose to highlight the fact that her father’s strong moral guidance led her to leave a lucrative law career to work for the community. Good morals and wonderfully worded speeches will not make American citizens go out and improve things for themselves because they are being told that our government will make all of our problems go away.

Mark Warner, former Virginia Governor placed a little fear in the hearts of Americans on Tuesday night when he spoke about the Chinese Olympic team going for gold and the notion that if we don’t motivate they will make an impact on our country very soon, negative or positive I don’t know. Warner said that Americans “Shouldn’t have to leave home to find a world class job” I know Warner was referring to America as home, but for some Americans finding the motivation to leave home to find a job locally is a hard enough task. I think the Democratic Party needs to focus in on what their goals are and really try to cut the fat in the upcoming nights of the convention.
