Michelle Obama is NO hero, and she will not be the “secret weapon” of Barack’s campaign. Yes, she may have given a rather eloquent speech at the DNC on Monday night, but that Michelle Obama that we all saw is vastly different from the one we saw in mid February. You remember… the one that said “For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country…” Obama was born in 1964, so this means her adult life begin in 1982. So, she wasn’t proud of her country when President Reagan demanded the Berlin wall be torn down, or when our very own lost there lives in the World Trade Center on September 11tth attempting to save people’s lives that they didn’t know? Or when a few people on American Airlines flight 93 decided to take matters in their own hands, and take down the terrorist, so no other lives would be harmed? Not even a tiny inkling of pride?? Guess not.
Since these comments in February, Michelle Obama has been given a complete overhaul on her image. She now has a speechwriter and is surrounded by almost an entirely new team. If you recall, no one heard from Michelle for about a month. She was letting the storm around her comments die down. And now, she is the darling of the media. Even being compared to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, which I don’t even want to get started on that… Until I can see that Michelle has a genuine bone in her body and she and her husband alike aren’t the elitist that I believe them to be, my opinion is absolutely not going to change.

When Michelle Obama said in February that she was proud of America for the first time in her adult life, I believe she meant that she is proud of Americans for realizing the need to take action to make our country as good as we boast it to be. Unfortunately, America is an apathetic nation when more people vote for the next American Idol than they do the next president. Many Americans haven't realized the full capabilities and benefits of our democratic nation, but as President Bush's eight years in office come to a close, more people are suddenly beginning to see the need for change and are wanting to take action. And for that we should definitely be proud.
