As They Say...

I've always - as I'm sure many have - heard the phrase "history always repeats itself." As I watch coverage of these two candidates and read articles about them, I feel that I may be reliving a bit of the past right here in the future. It seems that elements of the Kennedy/Nixon election of 1960 have become prominent in our 2008 election.
It seems pretty simple to correctly guess which candidate of now pairs up with his likeness in 1960. Obama's face is all around us on magazine covers and news programs. His name is constantly jumping out of articles. He even appears to have noticed the similarities and has taken on the role of being J.F.K., and might I add that he is doing quite a good job. Meanwhile, McCain seems to be stuck in Nixon's shoes.
Physical features are oftentimes the most obvious showings of similarities and differences. Obama is the young, handsome candidate with a lovely wife and two adorable girls. McCain is much older and when stood next to Obama, considerably less attractive as a candidate because he is so much less assertive.
I think that Obama has found a niche in re-creating J.F.K.'s Camelot. Michelle Obama gave a lovely speech, and though it lacked a lot of real substance, it was pleasing to listen to, which can win people over without them really noticing. Senator Obama is a wonderful speech giver. During his acceptance speech, he never tripped over his words or looked down once that I noticed. He had me won over while I was listening to him. He is such a force on stage.
Then there is McCain, who is shifty on stage and is having real difficulty reading off teleprompters, etc. He lacks presence when he speaks, and I don't feel that I have to give him my attention like I do when Obama takes center stage for a speech.
If history does intend to repeat itself this year, Kennedy wins. As Americans hunting for their "Amercian Dream" I would be surprised if Camelot could be outvoted, no matter the race or religion or name of the leader.

Your comments are all true as far as the history and the comparision of Obama and McCain. I would also like to point out that people that listened to the debates said Nixon won the debates and those who watched the debates said Obama won. This is why people should really pay attention what the candidates say and not HOW they say it. Forget who makes a shiver go down your leg but the one who is talking about the issues. I hope people learned from history and will look at the candidates platforms and not their good looks and soothing voice.
