Woman v. Woman

With Gov. Sarah Palin selected as Senator McCain's running mate, there seems to be a new tension between the two political parties. Whose woman will bring in more votes?  At the Democratic National Convention, several speakers such as John Kerry and Guy Cecil spoke bitingly of the impostor on the republican ticket who is trying to steal everything Senator Clinton ever worked for. In the mean time, previous Clinton supporters are having a second look at the Republican ticket. This response both annoys and amuses me. I find it funny that the addition of a woman to the Republican party has so many re-evaluating their political views. However, at the same time I find myself annoyed. Why should someone make such a difference based only on gender? I a not a feminist, but I am slightly appalled that America puts such stock in the gender of our political leaders. Many claim that the fevered response that Palin has received will only last as long as she does a fabulous job at everything from now on until the election. Well duh! We expect that from all our political figures, especially ones who are running for the Presidency. So I do not know what to think about all the extra hype and competition between these two women. They are women, yes. But what do they have to say?
