I read an interesting article the other day regarding the concept of senators and house representatives running for re-election this year winning their respective elections simply because voters check the "all-republican" or "all democrat" box at the top of their ballot based on their choice for president. Thus, those running for house and senate seats end up riding in on the coattails, so to speak, of the candidate elected as president. It made me wonder if perhaps those little boxes at the top of the ballot allowing voters to cast their vote for every member of a certain party running in the election are not such a good idea. While they make voting incredibly convenient and easy, they also allow voters to forget about each and every candidate and consider the fact that, while they may be from the same party, not every candidate holds the same views.
