As I woke up this morning I flipped on CNN and hoped that my absentee ballot would be properly accounted for and that it would not "accidentally" make its way into the trash can. I only say this because every news personality I have seen in the past week has been fixated on the idea of another voting controversy. As if the fact that we have possibly the first black president about to be put into office, an economic crisis, and troops in the Middle East was not enough for our media to talk about they have to scare Americans by telling us that our absentee ballots will never really be counted. Well I'm tried of hearing all of these nay-sayers, with all this talk about change and progression from our candidates I think it is time for the media and our citizens to follow suit. This country was founded on hope and action, now our media is using scare tactics to inspire action in our citizens, which is not the motivation we need. Media personalities like Glenn Beck in his jeans and tie try to sound like a good ole fashioned friend when all they are doing is preaching the gospel of disaster. In my humble 21 year old opinion, I think these guys are wrong. Weather it be Barack or John in office this country will not all of a sudden implode on November 5th and all hope will be lost. This country has been through tough times and we will be sure to see more turmoil down the road but we cannot just give up and think all of our problems are going to be solved in one day by one man. The problems that Bush faced will still be around, how these men approach those problems should show their true colors. But for now as I sit next to a young lady with a big picture of Obama with the word NOPE under it (that was not a plug for the Maverick, just an interesting observation) I have to give my two cents, make up your own mind, do your own research and for god's sakes please don't go out and vote for a candidate just because your parents, sorority sisters, minister or the media tell you to. As for now I'm done being scared by big, conservative media, I'm off to tivo old episodes of Fox n' Friends and Glenn Beck.
