I feel that presidential candidates take their home states for granted. Time.com has an article on its web site saying that Arizona is not a lock for Sen. John McCain.

In the article, it talks about how the population of Arizona is changing and not just in numbers. Many people in Arizona have only seen McCain’s name on a ballot once or even never, which shows that this could be a younger crowd or even people moving from other states.

The story also mentioned that McCain is not connecting well with the Latino voters. That is crucial for McCain because it would not only help him in Arizona, but also in places like Miami.

The author, Jay Newton-Small, said that when researching and interviewing that he went to both parties’ headquarters. The Democrats had a full house in their building as volunteers were calling people to support Sen. Barack Obama. The Republicans had a different environment as their building was locked and bare.

Al Gore lost Tennessee in 2000, and he lost the election. I hope McCain doesn’t take Arizona for granted.
