Today, General Colin Powell announced that he supports Obama’s candidacy for president. This may suggest to some that a former military leader as influential as Colin Powell believes that Obama could effectively function as the commander and Chief. John McCain was not surprised by the endorsement and says that he has a lot of respect for Colin Powell. While powell is a black man and Obama would be the first black president, he denies the racial aspect of his endorsment, stating that it was not the deciding factor.

However, we should remember Obama has not respected the military action in Iraq. Also, Colin Powell left the White House on bad terms with President Bush so to me Powell may just have a case of “sour grapes.”
