I have realized that I've been blinded by the overwhelming similarities between this election and that of 1960 thus far in the campaigns. It's now been brought to my attention that this is similar to many previous elections where the candidates have consisted of one with lots of experience on his resume and one with considerably less experience filling up his. Also, the candidate with more experience in these elections has called out the other on being less experienced and tried to use that against him. The election this year's is most similar to seems to be the election of 1980 featuring incumbent Jimmy Carter and opponent Ronald Reagan.
In 2008, Senator Obama is in the role of Ronald Reagan. Senator McCain is playing that of Jimmy Carter, the main difference being McCain is not running for re-election to the presidency.
In 1980, Jimmy Carter used the strategy of making Americans unsure about Reagan by talking about Reagan's lack of experience and continuing to bring it up throughout his campaign. The country was not for Carter, but were unsure enough about Reagan to side with Carter for a while. Reagan, however, was cool and calm and a very good speaker. Reagan won the election.
But let's not choose Obama just because just because you think history always repeats itself and therefore will this time. No matter what is seems, it's not good logic. We have the power over the history books by voting. We choose what goes in there. What type of chapters will we be responsible for?
