While watching campaign coverage over the last few days, I can't help but wonder if perhaps the candidates and their parties are completely capitulating to what they think voters want to hear instead of making real promises.
The thing that really made me think about this was McCain's announcement that if elected he would appoint democrats to his cabinet. This is all well and good- that is, if he really intends to do it. I can't help but wonder if he has made this promise in order to garner more votes and will really follow through with it if he gets elected.
Each candidate has made promises like this, and I wonder if they will follow through on any of them. Has this race turned into such a competition for every last vote that the issues don't matter anymore?
