I read on Time.com that Gov. Sarah Palin is granting ABC her first television interview with Charlie Gibson at the end of this week just a few days after I read that the McCain camp doesn’t want her to give many interviews outside of planned speeches. Why do campaigns do this—not wanting their candidate to give interviews? I understand that speeches are more prepared and usually better said, but they don’t give the true side of a candidate. They are just words written by someone else. This is similar to Sen. Barack Obama not joining Sen. John McCain in the town hall debates. I also understand that this is what the debates at Ole Miss and other institutions are for, but I feel that the candidates should be wanting this—to be with the people and answering their questions.
As a voter who is not bought into any candidates at this point, I feel that more candid interviews would show the true side of a candidate and what they are more than likely going to be like in Washington (well, at least in the beginning).
