According to the New York Times article "Two Rivals, Together on 9/11," Obama will meet with McCain in New York at ground zero on the seventh anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Both the Obama and McCain camps have decided to stop all political advertising on Thursday so that they can put politics on the back burner and bring the memory of those who gave their lives to the forefront.

This is a rare and unique occassion that these two candidates will come together to do something other than bicker or debate. It makes me happy to know that most of the campaigns are just a big show and that these two candidates have more to them. I'm proud that they can set aside their differences and come together for good.

In a joint statement from both candidates, they said, “On Thursday, we will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity, to honor the memory of each and every American who died, and to grieve with the families and friends who lost loved ones.”

I'm happy to know that two of the most different people, Obama and McCain, can come together as Americans and illustrate to the rest of the nation that we are and can continue to be a strong and unified nation.

I was equally glad to see the two of them meet up, without the campaign signs and fancy speeches. I just watched the forum today, and they both appeared very tense. Like when they shaking hands, I half expected one or the other brandish a jack knife.
