All eyes of the world are focused on Ole Miss as the first debate of the general election takes place Friday September 26, 2008. As the University prepares the campus for the candidates, senator Barack Obama and John McCain prepare themselves for the slated discussion on Foreign Policy.
It's timely that Obama and McCain are debatng foreign policy what with the war in Iraq and the invasion of Russia into Georgia. The world is a dangerous place and these issues can no longer stand at bay.
One of the chief arguments used against Barack Obama in his run for the Democratic Presidential nomination has been his inexperience in foreign policy.
The following paragraph is from TIME Magazine:
Clinton herself has criticized Obama sharply for his suggestion that the four years he spent living in Indonesia as a child helped him develop a world view and gives him credence on the world stage."Voters will judge whether living in a foreign country at the age of 10 prepares one to face the big, complex international challenges the next President will face," Clinton, the former First Lady who has spent seven years on the Senate Armed Services Committee, told supporters Nov. 20 in Shenandoah, Iowa. "I think we need a President with more experience than that."
Obama told an audience in Audubon , Iowa last month, "because not only do I have the experience of working at the highest levels of government on foreign policy but also because the leaders of others countries will know that I've got family members that live in small villages in Africa that are poor so I know what they're going through."
Ok, so Obama has family living in foreign countries and he can relate to their stituations but how does that translate into the executive experience needed for the most powerful position in the world. The White House is no place for on the job training.
