More Oil

I was reading the Daily Mississippian last week during class when I came across a political cartoon making fun of McCain responding to every question with "drill for more oil". And while the I got the message of the cartoon, and feel it is probably a good point to be made, I thought, "why don't politicians focus more on oil?" If it is a prevalent issue of our nation, why not pound it into the heads of Americans. If higher-up officials asked the right questions to the right people and actually passed laws to mobilize our oil situation, we might not be in the situation we are in right now. Instead of letting the oil companies control our production (seeing as they habve the most to gain from high gas prices) we should let the people paying the difference have a say in the matter. Maybe we should be looking for new outlets and making efforts to reduce prices, maybe even, drill for more oil.
