So...I picked up a copy of the September 22 Newsweek issue: What Women Want. I have to give my hats off to the cover designer, because writing the cover title in lipstick was very appealing. However, appealing and all, it is displays like this one, that send women back to 1917, when it warned that women voting would "destroy the home, which is the foundation of the republic." The idea of women embracing lipstick as our moniker of empowerment, is almost as ridiculous as African-Americans embracing a certain racial slur as sign of "brotherly love." I love the fact that women want to be there for each other and support our suffrage, but making a mockery of ourselves by wearing oversized, overly painted lips to political does just the opposite. We are provided the modern day minstrel show when we do this. So, please ladies, let's stick to the issues of our government and this campaign. America is not Sex and the City;We have to represent ourselves diligently and professionally, so that we may excel respectively.
