We've all been told that the Presidential Debate is a wonderful chance to get the modern Ole Miss out on the public stage, and some have been skeptical on whether the media truly is interested in our university or not. However, some of our professors and administrators predictions on coverage have come true. For the past few days, media from places ranging from Rock Hill Herald in Rock Hill, SC, to Bloomberg.com to The Associated Press have been touching on Ole Miss.
Also true to predictions, one of the main focuses has been the race question. In the stories, Chancellor Robert Khayat is obviously trying hard to shift the focus to Ole Miss's attributes. I think he has a great chance to give reporters a pretty cool metaphor for change - taking the 1962 riots and comparing them to the James Meredith memorial and the fact that Obama will be here in September.
Let's hope this media coverage works out.
