Site Network: Debate This, Ole Miss. | the j-department | debate.olemiss.edu | mblog | mcast | the university of mississippi

Tonight I attended the Debate Kick Off. As always I enjoyed listening to the Chancellor and his wise remarks regarding everything Ole Miss. It was also good to see the wide variety of Ole Miss departments there, including athletics. While waiting on the lottery to begin I had a brief catch up with Linda Spargo on the selection process. She discussed with me the details of how the lottery was set up and how the names would be chosen. I then informed her I had only been to one debate related activity over the past week due to my busy schedule and doubted my chances of my name being drawn. I no sooner had spoken these words when little to my surprise, my name was called. So now what? I have heard wait on the e-mail, call this person, look at that list, and go to this place. I was told their would be a percentage taken off the people chosen and you have to be high enough of the list to go. But the University will not know till Tuesday or maybe even Wednesday how many student tickets the Debate Commission will actually give us. I am clear on the fact that the University my have between 70 and 120 student tickets. They top twenty five percent of people from both lists will get to go, along with the Omazing Race winners, and several other student approved activities. So for now I am just going with I might have a "Golden Ticket." Even with all the confusion I am waiting excitedly to find out.
