I've been noticing media covering a few of the more recent events at Ole Miss surrounding the debate. I feel that Ole Miss students are not doing a great job of conveying the excitement that comes with hosting this event. I would think it would be obvious that if you are doing what you can to get your name into a drawing to win tickets or are competing to win tickets to the debate, you would be excited about that opportunity.
However, following the quiz bowl finals and during the name drawing today, the students just don't seem as fired up as one would think. This is a big deal, Ole Miss. Get fired up. I've watched the reporters from newspapers and especially from television stations trying to capture student body excitement from the precious few that will be able to view it within the Ford Center, rather than nearby the Ford Center in the Grove.
It just seems to me that our student body's emotions could be better expressed. We have incorporated this debate into our daily lives and academics more than any other host school. We have something to be extremely proud of. I know I am excited about this week we have been preparing for for a while now. It's finally here. Let's show the world what we've made of it. Get excited. There's no reason to be down about inconvenient parking situations, etc. Inconvenient parking is definitely not a new topic on this campus.
