The lights had dimmed. The stage was decorated with symbols of our country. A soaring eagle in the middle of the stage and the words of founding fathers surrounded the candidates. The auditorium was filled with some of the greatest political minds of our day. John Kerry, Bill Clinton, and Rudy Giuliani sat silent waiting for one of the most historical events of our time to commence. Then, Sheperd Smith welcomed his viewers, "Good Evening, welcome to the Ford Center..." Next, Tom Brokaw said, "Good Evening, welcome to the first presidential debate..." Last, Katie Couric said, "Good Evening, we are broadcasting live from Oxford, MS..." I sat amazed and I to make certain that I was not in a dream. The candidates stood on stage each at their podeum. I was in fact in the same room as one of the future leaders of the United States of America. This was in fact the most exciting moment in my life. I was able to be an usher for the First Presdential Debate and be in the same room with the two potential Commander in Chief of the United States. I had chills down my spine the entire night, and I still can't believe I was in the Ford Center. Watching the Barack Obama and John McCain debate only feet away from me is an experience I think that will change me forever.
