Every Vote Counts!

At the kick-off of the Ole Miss Homecoming Queen and Miss Ole Miss and Colonel Reb elections I sighed with resentment.  All of those hoards of campaigners at every corner, every stop sign, every building--oh wait, just about every step you take.  People shouting at you, holding up signs, making announcements, etc.  Everyone thinks it is so annoying, and I did too until I realized how much it really matters.  Campaigning really does matter and it can make a difference.

Colonel Reb won by a landslide but there were run offs for the other elections.  The final votes were counted and recorded Thursday afternoon.  The Homecoming Queen won by a mere 17 votes.  Yes, just 17 votes!   That is when it hit me that every single vote really does COUNT!   This process showed me the election advertising, debates and news can be wearing on us all but they are just trying to find ways to get our attention to vote for one candidate or the other.  They are trying to give us a reason to vote; to sway us. Their intent is to swing people who are still hanging out in the middle, are independent, or are thinking they won't vote because they don't like either candidate.  It is for a reason: it is the election for our next president!  It's not just who will represent our school, but it is who runs our country.  This election could be close, or not at all, but either way, EVERY VOTE COUNTS.  If you think your vote won't really matter in the big picture, think again!  So get out there and VOTE.  Every vote counts!!!
