Are You Ready?

When I was first informed that I would be working with CBS News for the debate, I didn't really know how to react. CBS has been through some difficult times over the past several years and has struggled to regain lost ground in the ratings. Their news division has been through several controversies, culminating with an embarrassing fiasco during the 2004 presidential election season. As Dr. Husni started calling out the assignments, I have to admit that I became a bit disappointed...

Then I remembered that CBS has been in the business for over 50 years. History, experience and tradition are virtues that not every media outlet shares. CBS was there during the Apollo missions to the moon (and yes...we did go to the moon). They were there in Vietnam. They have covered every major news event for decades and their correspondents have been putting themselves in harm's way for longer than I have been alive.

Tomorrow, CBS and almost every other major news network will begin to arrive in Oxford. For people like me, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm no longer disappointed. I'm excited and ready. I hope that everyone joins me in appreciating the magnitude of this event. Maybe I am selfish, but I'm not interested in what this means for the University, and I don't really care what this means for Oxford. I'm excited about an event that could define our college experience and I have just one question for you...

ARE YOU READY?
