Wowed by the Woman

After watching Michelle Obama gracefully speak at the Democratic National Convention, I felt proud to be a woman myself. Presidential elections have always seemed to me to be a constant battle mainly between two men; their wives standing unnoticed in the background (excluding such standouts as Jackie O). But, not this woman. She portrays characteristics women have been trying to prove to the world that they possess. Things such as strength, intelligence, ability, confidence; the list goes on.
Michelle Obama has now burst onto the political scene, bringing with her a new definition of the term “First Lady.” I imagine McCain’s wife is definitely feeling the pressure to play a greater role in her husband’s campaign if he is to hold a position in the running for the presidency.
While this election is monumental in the possibility of electing the first African American President of the United States of America, I also believe it will be monumental in setting the bar for the responsibility and importance of the First Lady. Michelle’s speech showed her unwavering confidence in her husband’s ability to be the leader of our nation and a definite vessel of change for this country and the world.
And what a tough act to follow it will be.
At the Democratic National Convention, Michelle held the crowds’ hearts in the palm of her hand, something that I believe will prove to be very vital when those present and those who were viewing are filling out their ballots on election day. She achieved this control of the audience with her winning smile and confident voice. The whole time she was speaking I couldn’t help but think that it doesn’t even matter what is coming out of her mouth right now; these people are in love with her. And I admit I even felt myself smiling with her and applauding her ideals.
Who knows, maybe with these two leading our country, we will begin “to see the world not as it is, but as it should be,” and something will finally be done about it.
