Tonight during the Democratic National Convention, John McCain plans to air an ad congratulating Barack Obama on his presidential nomination. While the ad is being both praised and criticized, it comes as an enjoyable break from the seemingly endless attack ads seen all over the television and media. Some might question the sincerity of McCain’s ad, but shouldn't we just be glad that for just one moment it is not all about attacking the other candidate?
Regardless of which party each of us belongs to, we should all recognize that is a momentous night for America. As McCain says, it really is “perfect” that Obama’s nomination is occurring on the forty-fifth anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. So maybe just for tonight, we should put aside any bias or dislike and recognize that this night is a truly remarkable event in American history. After all, tomorrow they will “be right back at it.”
