She has been called the Joan of Arc of Alaskan politics, and been described as a "hard-nosed fighter," whose more than just your everyday soccer mom.  Who is this daring heroine of the US governmental system?  John McCain's official running mate, Gov. of Alaska, Sarah Palin.  Conservative, forty-four year old, Sarah Palin was announced this week as the GOp Republican nomination for Vice President, surprising many men and women, most of them wide-mouthed Democrats.

Sen. McCain's choice in running mate cracked the "More of the Same With McCain" standard mold that shell-shocked Democrats had established him as.  He was expected (mainly by Democrats) to pick someone older...male...and, well, not from Alaska.  However, he surprisingly chose the younger, attractive, not to mention Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin.  The unexpected selection will, I sincerely believe, work in John McCain's favor.  Obama's not the only one in this election who has already made a significant mark in the pages of United Sates history.  Palin, mother of five, is the youngest person to ever hold the office of Governor in Alaska.  Not only that, but Palin is the first female governor Alaska has ever had.  Not only that, but this will be the second time in all of US history that a woman will represent the vice presidential nomination.  Her resume is more than just impressive, it's historical!

Not even a week after being named the republican Vice President nomination, Palin is already doing wonders for the John McCain campaign.  Just two days after McCain announced Palin his running mate, four million dollars was raised on his official website.  As McCain has stated on his official web site, "She's got the right judgement.  She doesn't think, like Senator Obama does, that Iran is a minor [problem] and knows that the surge worked and succeeded and she supported that.  She's been commander-in-chief of the Alaska Guard that has served back and forth...and has a son who's ready to go in the fall."

Both Palin and McCain have a past involving military issues-another reason why she was selected his running mate.  Gov. Palin also shares in common with McCain a great deal of experience dealing with economic issues. With the obvious econominc downfall and recession the United Sates is currently in, that's an obvious plus.  However, there are some Liberals that would disagree that McCain's VP pick was a smart one.  A few of the arguments against her are that she's a little too blue (aka too Republican), and that she won't necessarily sweep in female votes for McCain.

Of course the media who seems to be Obama-obsessed will try to tarnish Palin's image and portray her in a certain way to the public.  She's not as well known politically as someone like oh say...Hilary Clinton, but I believe Palin will be an invaluable asset.  She's clearly very knowledgeable of the political system, and has a great political recored in Alaska.  Palin proves that fame doesn't make you a good politician.  Someone who's still riding on his should learn a lesson from her.
