The Charismatic Obama

I find it amazing how much of the spotlight Obama has on him right now. He's mysterious because he just seemed to have popped out of nowhere and is very capable of wooing the American public. Obama is something new and fresh, so everyone wants to know what his next move will be, even those who oppose him. He is almost like a breath of fresh air in a very conservative government. Because he's a younger, handsome man who is very charismatic, he seems to be able to connect to younger generations on top of keeping an upper hand in the older generation.

Obama seems to symbolize change to many American people. I feel that change is something that many Americans are looking for right now. At the moment, the United States is in the midst of a bad economy and is involved with several wars that many of its people do not agree with. Bush and the Republican party seem to be at the center of the blame, which is why Bush tends to not find favor in many Americans' eyes. I do not think McCain's results will be as strong as Obama's simply because his is so similar to President Bush. Obama is the change America wants right now.

I agree with Katrina that a big part of Obama's appeal to voters is his emphasis on change. We have been able to see this all throughout his campaign, in the oceans of signs stating the word "CHANGE" at his rallies and in his and his supporters speeches--change is the undeniable theme of the democratic presidential campaign.
Along with this, Obama is making sure to link McCain's name to Bush's presidency--a stark contrast to the "change" the Democratic party would bring to the nation if elected. Tonight, for example, in Joe Biden's speech at the DNC, he dropped an "accidental" name slip, saying Bush's name and correcting himself by referring back to McCain.
