After listening to Obama’s speech I was interested by the commentary that followed. After flipping back and forth between MSNBC and Fox News I went online to check out their coverage of last nights events. Both agreed that Obama did exactly what the Democratic Party needed; a strong speech expressing his readiness to serve and to take on John McCain. MSNBC wrote of Obama’s encouraging words, and his rebuttal to the remarks made by the Republican Party. Throughout the article they showcase the ways that Obama faced allegation that he was unfit to serve and his ‘celebrity status.’ He spoke of disagreements and that it should not involve questioning one’s character or patriotism. He addressed McCain saying, "They (our soldiers) have not served a red America or a blue America -- they have served the United States of America," he said. "So I've got news for you, John McCain: We all put our country first." NBC applauded Obama, calling his speech, “almost more than any single speech could accomplish – a combination of poetry and prose…”

After reading that I switched over to Fox to see their views on the Convention and was not surprised to see a completely different outlook. Fox congratulated Obama on a job well done but was quick to tell that Obama’s speech took place on the 45th anniversary of the Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream speech,” which MSNBC did not mention. Fox went back and forth between what Obama said and the Republican’s response. I did like that Fox spoke of McCain’s one-day-only ad congratulating Obama, “How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we’ll be back at it. But tonight senator, job well done.” And they were, at ten a.m. McCain announced his Vice President Sarah Palin, Alaskan Senator and mother of five.
It was 10:20 a.m. when I went to look at the online articles. MSNBC had split screens giving the breaking news of McCain’s choice but also news of the Democratic Convention. Fox on the other hand was filling with stories and videos of the Republican Party’s announcement. It honestly took me a few minutes to find any article relating to the Democratic Conventions and Obama’s speech.

While MSNBC lifted Obama up with praise, I think Fox gave an inside look on what is to come from the Republican next week but a definite bias was shown.
