The voting polls are finally open today, but your votes do not count for another 77 days. MSNBC has reported that Bush will continue to manage among other things, the economy until January 2009. So those who are anxious for fresh ideas, new leadership and change, don't hold your breath. By all means, go out and vote today, in fact I encourage it, but the president you elect today will only have the nation's affirmation of presidency and not the authority associated to such a title.

The thought behind the 77 day delay is all to do with the president-elect staying out of tricky national matters until he is needed. Afterall, why would the next president want to be tied up with George Bush given his unfavorable reputation. The fact is, there can only be one president at a time, so we are stuck with Bush until January. MSNBC suggest a smart move for the president-elect is to name his secretary, treasurer and economic team and not much more than that. Good idea I say. Yes, we are more than ready for change, but let's not rush into this before we have to. The next president is coming into office at a time where the economy is in tatters, businesses are failing and unemployment is high. Let's get it right this time.

In a break from tradition, both McCain and Obama will continue campaigning today after they have voted, before returning home to watch the results. Obama is in Indianapolis racking up last minute votes today. After voting at Albright United Methodist Church in Phoenix, Arizona, McCain is headed to New Mexico and Colorado, two Western states McCain's campaign believes he can win despite trailing in the polls. He needs to make up 270 votes.

Get up, brave those voting lines and keep voting!
