Site Network: Debate This, Ole Miss. | the j-department | debate.olemiss.edu | mblog | mcast | the university of mississippi

This may seem a little tardy to write about the first presidential debate which was hosted by Ole Miss but since I have been having technical difficulties posting here it is..better late than never I suppose. Anyway I was lucky enough to be a media intern under Gloria Kellum for debate week and needless to say that was an incredible experience in and of itself. But the true icing on the week's activities took place about 7 :35 Friday night. I was taking a break from my job of handing out the highly coveted gift bags and went to sit outside on the curb and watch the last of the guests file into the Ford Center for the impending debate. As I was sitting there with one of my friends and fellow debate intern, a guy approached us asking if we were students. Yes, we answered and after a little back and forth he told us that he had two tickets to the debate for us. Wow, so in the span of three minutes I went from sitting on the curb to standing behind John Kerry, Howard Dean and Tom Brokaw going through the metal detector and into the debate. The university has always said that they wanted this debate to be a great opportunity for the students and I must say that as an ordinary Ole Miss student I got an extraordinary opportunity with good timing and a little bit of luck.
