Is Lack of Party Support Affecting the McCain Campaign?
Posted by Megan Mackander at 10/13/2008 05:37:00 PMI read an article today on Newsmax.com which reported on Hilary Rodham Clinton’s visit to Philadelphia to rally support for fellow Democrat, Barack Obama. Her latest catchphrase- “jobs baby, jobs” – is a play on McCain’s infamous “drill baby, drill.” It seems Clinton is using her popularity in places like Philadelphia to help her once rival Obama win against Republican John McCain. The article even admits, that although once “bitter rivals,” Clinton is now chanting change and warning citizens that McCain would mean “four years of the same.” Sound familiar? It seems Clinton has embraced many of Obama’s philosophies to help him to presidency. So what I want to pose is, where is McCain’s support?
Sure, while he has Sarah Palin assuring the country that McCain is a maverick, he doesn’t seem to have any solid support from fellow Republicans who stood up against him in the primaries. Where is Mike Huckabee (second place after McCain) and Ron Paul? Yes rivals once, but now it is down to Republicans against Democrats. McCain may preach a bi-partisan approach to issues such as Hurricane Gustav or the economic crisis, but the fact remains that this is a race between two men for presidency. There have been some political endorsements by other Republican leaders such as Rudy Giuliani, but any support in recent weeks has been left unnoticed. At least in the press.
This is the first time since 1928 that no incumbent president or incumbent vice president ran for nomination for president, so it’s a fresh start for us. McCain can only convince voters so much and I think it is about time his fellow republicans stood up and supported him, or the McCain campaign will simply go unnoticed while the Obama brigade dominates the race.
