Before last week, the majority of the American population honestly had no clue of who Sarah Palin was. This week is a much different story. The tough-skinned lipstick Governor of Alaska has now become a household name that much of the press has been trying to tear apart.
As a Journalism major, I realize how difficult and downright impossible it is at times to remain completely unbiased; however, since when does the media have the authority to judge the personal and private business of others?
McCain's running mate has become the "hot" item to discuss, and for lack of evidence, magazines, such as US Weekly, have taken it upon themselves to string together and fabricate stories about Palin to tarnish her image.
She's even been the target of harsh remarks about her experience level. Ironically, the people condemning her fail to recall that Obama's years of political involvement amounts to a questionable two. Of course this is one of her attributes that works very well in McCain's favor. For instance, how can Democrats sneer at her, who's the nomination for the Vice President, when their candidate is wanting to become the leader of the free world with only reputable marks as being a "community organizer" and Senator?
Palin herself made a sharp stab with a dazzling smile at Obama and his campaign Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention with her comment "being a mayor is kind of like a community organizer-except you have responsibilities." I must say I'm awed at her boldness and ability to brush off all the rumors surrounding her VP nomination.
Despite all the mud-slinging and smear campaigning, Palin fearlessly spoke at the Republican National Convention and impressed upon the audience eagerly watching that she is more than qualified to be Vice President of the United States of America.
