Having watched both the DNC and RNC come and go it seems to me the candidates are cooling down a bit.
Both parties had their big shining moments at their respective conventions and now continue to campaign across the nation. The last couple of weeks were like a big storm brewing then all of a sudden it hits, passes, and all the emotion is gone.
We as Americans can go about our lives as they were before the conventions and wait for the next big event to take place.
The next big event will impact us here at Ole Miss in a much more personal way than the DNC or RNC did. When our small college town is thrust into the national spotlight we hope it will be for the right reasons. We hope journalists from far come here and see us for what we are now, not dwell on what has taken part in the past. Sure our history is important to us, but it seems most people only focus on our past. By hosting this debate Ole Miss is shining a bright light on an even brighter future.
So to all the journalists covering this historical event......Please embrace us for what we are becoming and how we are doing our part to shape the future, not just what we have been.
