Sarah Palin’s speech last night was exactly what the Republicans needed after a week of media criticism. She was entertaining and personable, funny and sarcastic, and generally enjoyable. She fired right back at Democrats who focus on her lack of experience by detailing her 16-year history in politics. Touting her record of working her way from the PTA to the city council to the mayor of a small town and eventually the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin showed that Barack Obama is not the only one who worked his way up in government. She also jabbed right back at those Democratic opinions by reiterating that she has actually done things while in office, unlike Obama who “has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state Senate” during his political career. She responded to media criticism about her family by stating that her “family has the same ups and downs as any other ... the same challenges and the same joys.”
However, throughout her speech, she came off as a just a regular person. While attacking Democrats, their nominee, and his policies, she still was able to seem like the “hockey mom” down the street with her kind smile, and accent. She might have bashed Obama and his policies but she sure came across as a nice person.
