The Role the Media Plays

An article in Time Magazine posed the question of whether McCain and Palin's stance against the media was a loser's strategy. It then goes on to talk about how declaring war on the media actually can help a candidate.

At the National Republican Convention, American got a first hand look at Palin accuse the media of doing her wrong, which in return brought a lot of attention onto the McCain campaign.

According to the article, when "Hilary Clinton and SNL accused the media of coddling Obama that coverage of him turned sharp. If you want to amplify your message, make it about the media because the press finds itself the most fascinating subject of all."

It actually makes sense to me how this could work. Being able to bash the media is like taking a step into a spotlight. You have turned all attention on yourself. On top of that, it takes quite a bit of gut to stand up to something as big as the media.

As the article goes on to say, it's not just republicans who run against the media. According to the article, "In the primary, Obama and his rivals all but boycotted Fox News..." showing that both sides use this as a source of attention.
