Palin...she seems to be everywhere in the news media. Now she has broken through to the "big time" and found herself on the cover of the latest issue of People Magazine. Now this is not exactly the same as landing in U.S. News and World Report, but this is probably just what McCain had in mind when he chose her as his running mate. I mean think about it. Every "soccer mom" and and bored shopper who is waiting in a ridiculously long line at Wal-Mart will see this cover and several of these people may just flip through the pages to read the story.
As far as the story goes, it is a very moving and personal look into her past. It talks about the birth of her son Trig, who has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The full text of the article is not available on the Internet yet, so maybe you will want to go down to the closest grocery store and check it out. This article, although meant to sell magazines as a top priority, seems to be a perfect public relations piece and it feels like Palin wrote the article herself. It will definitely not hurt the campaign as she attempts to bring in more Hillary Clinton supporters and middle class women. I believe it will endear her to these voters and also solidify her already solid stance on abortion.
Oh, and abortion leads me to my next topic. Time.com has a piece called "Are Evangelicals Really Sold on Palin?" This article goes into Palin's personal religious history and picks apart different segments of the Evangelical community. It looks at her record on abortion, the churches she has attended, and what kind of impact these things may have on evangelicals. I think the article is very different from the People article. I know...you're probably saying DUH! What I mean is that while the People article focuses on the personal details and endearing traits of Palin, the Time piece takes a more analytical approach and almost seems like a weapon to point out the problems Palin and McCain face in the coming months. I don't necessarily agree with everything in these two articles but I think you guys should check them out.
Have a good night everyone and I'll see some of you guys on Monday.
