I just read an interesting August 28th, opinion article in The Economist called "Bring Back the Real McCain." With all this talk about being disappointed in and disillusioned by present politics, I'm afraid I'm only going to add to the complaining. From the sounds of the article, it seems that the political trail has managed to dirty up the image that McCain has so proudly stood by in the past.
The article says McCain has gone back on his previous views on tax cuts - from criticizing Bush's plans as unfeasible to making his own more similar to them, from firmly straddling the partisan line to spending more and more time wooing the conservative right.
However, with Palin, a staunch conservative, on his ticket now, perhaps he may be able to revert back to the old "maverick" some Americans know and love. The Economist may have their request granted. It's only been a matter of weeks since Palin was chosen. If McCain used her to quiet the conservative right, he may be able to focus on his old issues that set him apart.
