I couldn't help but notice Gov. Sarah Palin on the cover of People magazine as I strolled through the isles of Target, pictured with her youngest daughter and son, with the headline, "Sarah Palin's FAMILY DRAMA;" Complete with a picture of her pregnant teenage daughter Bristol in the left hand corner. Now my question is to what merit should Palin's family situation be given. I do fully believe that what happens in one's personal life can have many consequences in one's professional life. These consequences are not always unfavorable but they do transcend, which is inevitable human nature. But do the events surrounding Palin stand the chance of drowning her before she sets sail? Yes she has a pregnant teenage daughter and a Down syndrome infant, but do these things affect her ability to be a competent Vice President? Presidents through the years have had various affairs and family drama which might rival the media attention Palin is getting , but did it interfere with their job? This is not a question I have an answer to, because regardless of gender, any parent would have to be conflicted with balancing any job with family situations. The biggest selling point for Republicans about Palin is her family situation. One commentator put it this way after her speech "She is like a walking advertisement for all the main issues. Just look at her family and you will see where they stand." Now that is my paraphrasing of course but you get the idea. Yet it is that same family situation that will inhibit her from being a fully committed Vice President..that is for people to decide for themselves.
