Jill Greenberg, a devoted Democrat and photographer, released manipulated images of John McCain onto her website. The images, taken from the Atlantic cover shoot, were meant to portray a sharp political message. Clearly, Greenberg got her point across when bloggers bashed her and the Atlantic staff claimed they would never work with her again. Nevertheless, she is not a journalist, but a photographer--an artist with a message. Yet, as a freelance artist with the Atlantic she became tied to the journalistic world of "non-bias."
Therefore, I hope these images will serve as a reminder that the media is constantly manipulating in order to get their specific message across. It is up to us to critique, to examine, perhaps even to laugh at the information they have delivered into our hands and onto our screens.
