In this week's Newsweek, I came across an article that made me look at John McCain in a different light. The article was written by Terrance Hunt, and AP White House Correspondent, and it discussed how McCain is not only taking on Barack Obama and the democratic party, but he is also taking on people within the GOP, such as President Bush. McCain has stated numerous times that he has voted with Bush 90% of the time, but with Bush's low approval rating, that no longer is a good thing for McCain.
McCain also has to struggle with the left stating that electing John McCain as president, would be like electing Bush for a third term. While some on the extreme right might not mind that, the rest of America would. So, John McCain is trying now to distance himself as far as possible from Bush, but that may not be good for him, and I think he should be careful, because he already has enough problem connecting with the conservative base.
At a recent Republican Convetion, McCain stated that "We were elected to change Washington, but we let washington change us. We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to temptations of corruption." Proving that he is not shy to tell Republicans that they have been misguided, but those that have been misguided are the ones that may elect him President.
