Maxed-out Moms

In a recent Time Magazine article, a very interesting topic was brought up in relation to which voters will count the most during this election. The article, titled ″Maxed-Out Moms: The Battleground Voting Bloc″, claims that non-college educated, white moms in their fifties and sixties will be the voting group that decides who becomes the next president of the United States of America. Taking up an impressive twelve percent of the voting body of America, this normally overlooked group has become a massive focus of attention for both candidates this election. In an attempt to sway this significant group, both candidates have gone to great lengths to advertise themselves and their campaigns. These great lengths can be seen in shocking information presented in the article revealing the fact that Oprahs television show, hosted by one of the most supremely respected and admired women by women in the world today, receives and airs ″more political advertising than any other news show″ in the country. Currently, McCain is leading the way in these advertisements on the show, but both candidates are getting their name across to this significant group with the help of Oprah.
The fact that this seemingly trivial group of voters will play a tremendous role in the election of the next President is so interesting to me. It truly shows how wide of a spectrum the candidate′s stances of certain topics must appeal to. I think it’s a miracle that they manage to attract as many people as they do with the amount of diversity in opinion that America possesses. But, now the focus is supposedly on these white, middle-aged mothers, and truly I cant help but laugh when I imagine them running around at Wal Mart or dropping their kids off at school with no notion whatsoever that the next leader of this nation will be chosen by them. I bet if you told one of them that it would surely be news to them and they would probably laugh right along with you at the thought of it. Who would’ve thought?
